There has never been a dull Sunday in Kawangware. Never! In fact, if you're the type who enjoys free entertainment, just wake up on Sunday before dawn, grab a cup of tea, sit by the roadside, and let the Lord's choreography unfold before your eyes. Worship drama there starts as early as 3:00 a.m. And when I say worship drama, I don't mean ordinary drama. I mean premium, five-star drama. The kind that makes you question everything you thought you knew about church. The Luos have their heavyweights called Legio Maria and Nomiya Mission. The Luhyas also come fully loaded with African Divine Church(ADC), Dini ya Msalaba, Green Yellow Cross Church and Pentecostal Assembly of God (PAG). Agikuyu have their Habakkuk.. Akorino. Now imagine an estate with all these heavyweights.That estate is Kawangware. Buana, the things that happen there every Sunday should be protected as a national treasure. Sometimes I imagine even Yehovah Tsuri peeping through the clouds, adjusting His heavenly spectacles and asking, "Surely... who are these people, and what exactly are they doing down there? Worshipping me?" The first squad to report for duty is usually Legio Maria. These people don't simply walk to church. Walking is for ordinary civilians, and Legio Marias are not ordinary. They run. These guys are literally running through the streets, from as early as 3:00am. they're in it. Dancing. Singing. Whistling. They rotate. They spin. They zigzag. They do everything. At the front is their leader, a commander-in-chief. Waving a long stick with a multicoloured flag tied to it like he's leading an army into the Battle of Armageddon. Making those dance moves like someone stepping in fire. The man is usually almost a kilometre ahead of everyone else, dancing on one leg and shaking his head dramatically with the confidence of someone who's receiving live GPS instructions from Sayuni itself. Then, out of nowhere, it appears that he remembers that he's alone and so he sprints all the way back to rejoin the group. Summersaults here and there plus backward rolls,Cartwheels like an acrobat. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. By the way everybody participates in these abracadabras. Men. Women. G
