1. Breathe in 4 sec, exhale for 7 sec, no holding. 2. Inhale for 5 sec, exhale for 5 sec, so that you breathe 6 times/minute 3. humming.

sometimes you don't realize how lost you've become until you finally slow down and think about it. that's one of the things that makes Self I Left Behind by Jessica Morgan such a relatable topic

7 rounds of each of these three exercises: 1) Extended exhale: 4 seconds inhaling through the nose, 7 seconds exhaling through the mouth, no holding in your breath in between. 2) Coherence breath: breathing in through the nose for 5 seconds, breathing out through the mouth for 5 seconds. 3) Humming: breathing in through the nose for 5 seconds, humming out all of your air till your lungs are empty.

I keep waking up throughout the night with night terrors, racing heart, feeling like I’m gonna faint and vomit. Do I need to do this before I go to bed?

10 minutes is kinda diabolically long to break this down but I do respect the scientific evidence and the level of detail you provide!

as someone who has a masters in Developmental psychology I wouldn't say safe is the right word here. More like you are defaulting your brain. Does it work? Most definitely. Does it make you less stressed? definitely! Does it make you feel safe? that's individual. but it makes you more calm and sort of delete the emotions you where having. This is sort of like prana Yama breath work and there is several method to get the same effect like this. It's about redirecting your consciousness

Why do we think that 5 in 5 out is just the speed of our breathing swing? Doesn't it vary?

Ok but this is what I heard it that accurate? 4 seconds in 7 seconds out. 5 seconds in 5 seconds out while humming. Do this for 4 minutes?

Why not combine all 3 so it’s not so complicated? Ie Breathe in for 4 sec and out for 6 seconds (so that it covers both exercise one and two targets of longer out than in and total 10sec) and then also hum on the 6 sec out breath… and just practice this for 5 mins total
