He was just taken from momma too early, my kitty did that for a while but hes mostly grown out of it now. Some cats dont. But if you have a soft or fluffy blanket they really like that texture cause its like fur

My 1 year old calico girl does this fiercely on soft blankets....found her when was 5 6 days old

The people you got him from are correct. He was either abandoned or taken from mom too early. I have a two year old cat that does that but only when she is making biscuits. There’s not much you can do other than just being they’re. He may or may not grow out of it

He was definitely taking away from his mom too early and not weened properly . My bottle fed baby does this . They’ll grow out of it, but he is finding comfort in suckling on you, usually mine will cuddle up with one of those rough blankets that has like a the fuzzy ball ish and he loves suckling and making biscuits into it.
