@mayadeenenglish: President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva defeated Flavio Bolsonaro to secure an unprecedented fourth presidential term, sending tens of thousands of supporters into the streets in jubilation. From Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo, fireworks lit up the night sky, car horns echoed through the streets, and crowds dressed in red embraced, cried, and chanted Lula’s name. After trailing in the first round, Lula turned the race around in the runoff, winning 51.7% of the vote against Bolsonaro’s 48.2%. Since Brazil returned to direct presidential elections in 1989, no candidate who lost the first round had gone on to win the runoff. Now, Lula has broken that precedent, transforming a nail-biting election into a night of celebration across the country. #BrazilElection #BrazilElections #Brazil #LuizInacioLuladaSilva
