@eccusa: In the United States, your vote is private. That matters to everyone, but it matters most to targets of coercive control. Coercive control takes your voice and your choice. A coercive controller decides what a target is allowed to think, allowed to say, allowed to want. They rarely ask. And when they do ask, it is a performance, because the answer changes nothing. They have already decided. Asking is just the part that makes it look like you were consulted. A ballot is one place a coercive controller cannot reach. They do not get to stand behind you while you fill it in. They are not owed an answer about who you picked, and no one is going to make you give them one. Your ballot carries exactly the same weight as theirs. For anyone who has had their choices made for them, that is not a small thing. Right now, in the US, you still have this right. But rights have been narrowed before and they can be narrowed again. Do not let that happen quietly. So please vote. And, if you can, vote early.
