@legitalgorithmswithpeter: 🌐 The internet ran out of IP addresses… so how does it still work? 🚨 IPv4 has only 4.3 billion addresses, and the free central pool ran out in 2011. 🔧 NAT keeps the internet running, but IPv6 offers 340 undecillion addresses, simpler headers, and easier device configuration. ⚡ The catch? IPv4 and IPv6 aren’t directly compatible, making the transition complicated. 💬 Does your home network already use IPv6? #IPv4 #IPv6 #Networking #CyberSecurity #Tech
its just subnetworking of ip addresses, it can still run out, but its a simple logicstics thing, you can easily impliment it without changing out every single device...

So is NAT the reason IPv6 adoption keeps stalling? It works just well enough that nobody feels forced to switch.

I don't get why they didn't just use 64 but addresses ..... it's 4.29 billion times more addresses. why TF do you need 4.29B^4???? that number is insane.

One of the reasons for the slow switch is because NAT inherently hides the device behind it providing a small level of security since the individual device themselves can’t be directly targeted. NAT has become a general term to describe any type of address translation, rather than just Network Address Translation. What home routers are specifically doing is PAT.

IPv6 will run out because way too many "best practices" documents said to use a /64 for point- to-point links instead of /127s, eliminating a main bullet point of IPv6. Sssooo much wasted address space.

Oh how great and cool the world would be if we just said lets sunset a very limited, shitty, and most definitely bodgefixed protocol, and then just finally step over to ipv6 for once. Like the core idea is very simple of ipv4, while ipv6 seems more annoying at the surface, but you really cant be more wrong
