@rebekahslegacy: Not all abuse leaves physical marks. Sometimes, it happens quietly through manipulation, guilt, and control. Covert abuse can be difficult to recognize because it doesn't always look like what we think abuse should look like. A partner may seem loving and caring one moment, then use words or actions that leave you feeling confused, guilty, or questioning yourself. This kind of manipulation can take many forms: - Making you feel guilty for having your own opinions or setting boundaries. - Turning things around until you end up apologizing for something they did. - Denying things they said or did, leaving you questioning your own memory. - Using silence, anger, or the threat of leaving to get their way. - Making you feel responsible for their behavior or emotions. - Slowly pulling you away from friends and family. - Making promises to change, only for the same hurtful behavior to happen again. Over time, you may find yourself walking on eggshells, carefully choosing your words, or wondering if you are the problem. The key is recognizing the repeated pattern of control, not just looking at individual incidents. Of course, every relationship has disagreements, and no one is perfect. But repeatedly using guilt, blame, fear, or manipulation to control a partner is not healthy conflict. It is a warning sign of an unhealthy and potentially abusive relationship. Love should not require you to give up your voice, question your worth, or live in fear of your partner's reaction. Covert abuse can be hard to explain, especially when others only see the charming or caring side of a partner. If something in your relationship leaves you feeling confused, diminished, or afraid to speak honestly, you deserve to take those feelings seriously. More education about this is needed for society as a whole. Since covert abuse is hidden behind manipulation and control, it may be difficult for others to recognize. This can place an unfair burden on victims to explain, defend, and prove their experiences before they are believed. Victims should not have to carry the burden of educating others about the abuse they are experiencing while they are trying to navigate it themselves. Abuse does not have to be physical to be real. #rebekahslegacy #domesticviolenceawarenessmonth #covertabuse
