I did mine on the ground. Sat the car on jack stands and used the floor jack under the coil and let it down ever so gently.

I’m not kidding! I asked a mechanic to swap my front driver side shock. He removed all the correct bolts/nuts, but when I seen him removing the center nut I yelled are you sure about that? He looked at me like I was dumb. I RAN outside of the bay and behind a wall 😂 I heard a few loud thuds and him screaming and cussing. Once everything settled, I looked into the bay and asked, so how sure are you now?
