@cbsmiami: South Florida communities from Fort Lauderdale to Miami are preparing for worsening coastal flooding caused by king tides, strong onshore winds gusting up to 40 mph and heavy downpours. A CBS News Miami NEXT Weather Alert is in effect, with moderate to major flooding possible through at least Tuesday. Businesses along Hollywood Beach have placed sandbags to protect against rising water, while officials warn drivers that saltwater flooding can damage vehicles even if they do not stall. High tides on Monday were expected in Fort Lauderdale at 9:33 a.m. and 9:40 p.m., Miami at 9:19 a.m. and 9:24 p.m., and Key West at 11:05 a.m. and 10:23 p.m. According to NOAA, king tides are exceptionally high tides that typically occur around new or full moons when the Moon is closest to Earth.
