I've lived near for 40 yrs, and nothing has been changed. Even if they put in a light it's going to back up the traffic on the freeway getting into the exit. The best way is to go straight and turn left into the stores or do a u turn.

This is where I think New Jersey’s jughandles (overhated) make so much sense. By eliminating the left turn altogether at the signal, all turns are to be done from the right line via a jughandle ramp after the intersection that siphons all would-be left turners into the perpendicular road.
