“PETER OBI! OFUJI!!” — THE CHANTS THAT ROCKED ITEM CULTURE DAY IN ABA WHILE BENJAMIN KALU ADDRESSED THE CROWD! What was meant to be a cultural celebration turned into a moment of political expression as the people of Item made their voices heard. During the event, chants of “Peter Obi! Ofuji!” reportedly echoed through the gathering while Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu was urging the people to support him and President Bola Tinubu. The reaction was impossible to ignore. It was a clear demonstration that the people of Item have questions that deserve answers, and those questions cannot simply be brushed aside with political speeches. Interestingly, Benjamin Kalu also addressed the controversy surrounding the proposed Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Item. He urged the people not to pay attention to those alleging that the university was being relocated from Item to his hometown. But the fundamental question remains: Why should the future of an entire community become a subject of political controversy? Item people deserve transparency, clear explanations and concrete assurances about the institution’s location. Our collective future is too important to be treated as a bargaining chip in political calculations. I am particularly proud to say that I was among those who led the chants. I did so because I believe that our people have every right to express themselves, demand accountability and defend the interests of their community. Let this be understood: Item is not a community that should be taken for granted. Our culture is our identity, our unity is our strength, and our collective interests must always come first. We can celebrate our culture, respect our leaders and still demand accountability. These things are not mutually exclusive. No political position, title or influence should place anyone above legitimate questions from the people. The message from Item is simple: Our future is not negotiable, our voices cannot be silenced, and our community deserves nothing less than the truth. ITEM FIRST. OUR FUTURE FIRST! #ItemCultureDay #ItemFirst #PeterObi #trending #apc
