Have you tried playing mahjong? I find spending two hours at a table with minimal chit chat, as the play is quick and I’m trying to win dammit, I enjoy showing up at free play events and starting g to recognize people and having genuine “Hello! Good to see you” greetings.

I joined a rollerskating class and was so excited to see a few other women my age there alone. I made eye contact, I was engaging but not too invasive. Imagine my disappointment when a few of the ladies decided to friend request each other and make a coffee date. Without me. I’m a nice person dammit!

If you are not like a social butterfly, who makes friends with everybody you meet it is very hard to make friends when you move to a new city. I’ve been here in Tucson nine years and I really don’t have any close friends.

I have always struggled to make friends. I am so lucky that I made a couple of really nice friends through work that have stuck even though none of us work there anymore. Also I am friends with my family members. For many years my mom was my best friend. Don’t give up it really is worth it [Heartwarming]

I have found that I am losing friends now. I know we are changing and evolving, but some are using the “I’m being honest. That’s just who I am” as an excuse to hold grudges, be rude and choke out good long term friends.

Keep trying! I am slowly making progress. But it’s like a part time job. I do so many activities. Some lead to acquaintances and chit chat. Some lead to nothing. A few of the acquaintances are evolving to friends
