It’s because the MNBA doesn’t exist. The NBA allows both men and women play. The WNBA only allows women, thus the difference.

Why MNBA? Women are free to try out for the NBA if they want to, its not a League created specifically for men and women have been drafted to the NBA in the past i believe.

I use it similarly to trans and cis when speaking about humans, if I’m talking about a comparison of the leagues it makes since to differentiate between the two as WNBA and MNBA so there’s no confusion. Clarifies my point further. 🤷🏻♀️

because saying MNBA is a slap in the face to women's basketball players. you're pretty much saying that no woman will ever be good enough to play in the NBA. because the NBA doesn't barr women from joining, there just havent been any women yet that were good enough to join

Probably because it isn’t a men’s league, it’s open. But also, no one who uses MNBA is doing it respectfully. It’s always a troll or a gotcha and it works on a lot of people

It’s performative. Nobody has EVER referred to the wnba as the “nba” there’s no confusion there and anybody saying they simply use “mnba” to distinguish or specify are lying. I would say I am fairly interested In the wnba as of late but I’ve noticed a lot of the fans are fighting battles that don’t need to be fought. Yes, male fans of the nba have for years punched down at the wnba no denying that, but we are at a place where more male fans and male fans of the nba are starting to take the wnba seriously. You don’t need to do these performative things like calling the nba the the mnba to prop up the wnba. The wnba is on the come up and I think this is irrelevant in the grand scheme but it just detracts from the wnba in my opinion because the performativeness of it all just harkens back to the disparity between the nba and wnba in terms of popularity(which is to be expected due to league life time).
