I personally think that Pokémon fans should be more welcoming to Pokémon with designs similar to another. It’s a lot like how the real world works. There are species that look and behave SO similarly but are COMPLETELY different from each other. All the Pikachu clones are like this, they’re not related to Pikachu at all but look and behave very similarly. I think if you’re going to point out that it should’ve been an evolution you should also think that Alolan Meowth can evolve into Liepard, or Skitty into Purrugly, or Caterpie into Silkcoon/Cascoon, or Venonat into Butterfree, or Houndour into Mightyena, Poochyena into Mabostiff, etc etc etc
