Dont be this person please. I work in vet med and we do not work for free. We have bills to pay too. There are so many affordable programs such as Pet insurance, Care Credit, and even programs like Cherry where you can make monthly payments on vet care.

Animal hospitals care about saving animals, but compassion doesn’t make medicine free. Veterinarians have employees to pay, medications and surgical supplies to buy, diagnostic equipment to maintain, and a hospital to operate. They can’t keep saving animals if the hospital goes bankrupt. The real problem is that lifesaving veterinary care is expensive and we don’t have a strong safety net to help owners who can’t afford it.

Medical care for humans and pets alike is unaffordable. I understand that doctors and veterinarians should not work for free, but the healthcare industry is over inflated. And insurance of all kinds is a scam

This is true. My father was a veterinarian but he was old school, I can remember when he accepted eggs, sweet potatoes, and all sort of things and if you couldn’t pay, he would treat their animals anyway

I can’t imagine being a vet, how exhausting… most of them are likely wanting to save every animal but know it’s unrealistic long term 😭

I’ve been charged $600 for my cats ear infection so yeah, they DO overcharge. It is a system that takes advantage of helpless people

Or the animal rescue shelters that will not take strays you find abandoned unless you pay their $120 per animal surrender fee. I found 4 tiny kittens freezing in a cardboard box left by a store garbage dumpster. The very rude front desk staff wouldn’t accept the kittens unless I paid a surrender fee, for each one, and told me to take the kittens back to where I found them, leave them and call the Animal Warden to pick them up. This was in January and it was freezing outside.

I once took my dog with an emergency- bowel obstruction to the emergency vet! I thankfully had CareCredit and could pay the $4k to save his life. I asked the staff, what happens when someone brings in their dog and cannot pay the $4k for a bowel obstruction, she said it is cheaper to put them down. My mouth dropped. She then told me the story of a 6 month old hunting lab companion who came in, the owner could not afford the treatment, said to euthanize and walked out. The vet fixed the dog anyways and staffer kept the puppy. I said for real? And she said yeap, happens all the time. So like, people can’t pay to keep their pet alive, vet won’t help without pay so the owner surrenders, the vet does the medical treatment anyways and then the dog lives in another home?!? I no longer go there and LOVE our vet. When I could not pay for my dogs cancer tumor removal, the vet said she would do the surgery free of charge, I can just pay for the meds and overnight stay for recovery. He lived another 3 years with me. The day I put him down, she sat with me on the floor and cried with me. It hit her hard, she took the next week off. I brought a thank you card and 6 pizzas for the office. She still treats all our pets to this day!!! She is the bestest, her and her entire team! ❤️

They have no empathy for the animals. Money is what drives them. I speak from experience having had pets in 3 different specialty vet hospitals in nj.

vets only care about $ not your pets im poor their favorite line is euthanize em u cant afford it last te one told me that I carried cat home it ate next day was fine lived 3 more yrs to 16yro I hat going to vet I had many horror stories last time vet drained 2 miles of blood then told me cat had no blood but could live without it then said if u dont put flee med on him hr die she did it next day died in my arms he would have lived long if she didn't di that all he needed was a semester flea collar if they havd a reaction u can take it off they like to rub flee med in skin it killed a few of mine ill never do it again
