@therecount: A Texas town once had around 1,900 residents. Now, ~1 in 10 of those residents have been arrested by their local police officers and turned over to ICE. As part of an investigation into police agencies that have signed up for an ICE incentives program, ProPublica and the New York Times Magazine looked at a particularly jarring example of Trump’s mass-deportation program getting local help: Ingram, Texas. Thanks to the efforts of 29,000 other officers like Jaron Alexander, seen here, ICE has set records for deportations in the U.S. “I don’t enjoy when families are separated,” Alexander said in March when he was confronted outside a taco shop for arresting an undocumented man, Ulices Macias, the father of a newborn. But Alexander has also defended his actions: “For context, I’ve deported like six of their family members, and they’re still friendly to me,” he said about the family of Macias’ wife. “So, I’m not the monster they make me out to be.” #texas #ICE #immigration #trumpadmin #police
