@taylorcushmanmd: Heart health after menopause: 4 major medical groups (AHA, ACOG, AAP, SMFM) published 3 papers together on October 26, 2026, describing a woman's heart by life stage. The 4 things in your history that count: pregnancy complications, menopause before 45, frequent hot flashes that keep going, and your cholesterol and blood pressure. A risk enhancer is a reason to look closer, not a verdict. Hormone therapy isn't recommended to prevent heart disease; it's a treatment for symptoms. Free guide: link in bio. Sources: Khan SS et al, Circulation 2026 (doi 10.1161/CIR.0000000000001483, 1482, 1481); figures © American Heart Association. These are expert consensus papers. General education, not medical advice.

As a PA, i’m grateful that we’re actually practicing much better menopause medicine. However, I heartbreaks for the generations of women that came before me. They got screwed. THAT, pisses me off.

It’s a shame that women’s healthy is so poorly studied. The fact that women’s hormone replacement therapy isnt covered by insurance yet men’s testosterone is…disgusting!!

I started HRT via patch and my blood pressure dropped so much I had to have the medication adjusted. I was not aware how much our hormones impact our cardiovascular health.

Yet major insurance carriers will still deny coverage for a woman going to the ER for a heart attack

It’s pretty obvious that women need hrt during peri and post menopause. It is a travesty health providers have told women they don’t need it. Way too many women have suffered and died due to lack of care.

early menopause wasn't considered a heart risk enhancer until now? I was at risk of sudden early menopause, and literally my heart and bones were the 2 big things we discussed as health risks if that happened and we've been discussing that for 20 years.

Does age at stopped periods matter, regardless of the mechanism for reaching those stopped periods, for example, hysterectomy?

HRT SHOULD be looked at now that the black box warnings are gone and so many more women are on it. GameChanger for me.

They need to include Er+ women. I got catrated chemically at 52 after getting periods regularly still. That estrogen can sure help our hearts. If you have a 1% risk we should be able to decide on estrogen.
