@welovecanada0: Musk may be facing consequences that reach far beyond Ukraine. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has warned that Canada cannot afford to depend on a single technology provider whose decisions, or obligations to another government, could put Canadians at risk. His comments followed the controversy over restrictions affecting Ukraine's satellite communications. That is a serious warning for any company hoping governments will trust it with essential infrastructure. Starlink's capabilities are valuable. But governments also need confidence that critical services will remain available when circumstances become difficult. Technical performance and political reliability both matter. Could this become a domino effect? Possibly. If one country starts treating dependence on a single provider as a security risk, others have reason to examine their own arrangements. That does not mean Canada has announced a Starlink ban or that alternatives can replace it overnight. It means the question has changed: how much dependence is too much? For me, Carney's position is common sense. Build alternatives before a crisis exposes the cost of having none. Trust is difficult to rebuild once customers start planning around its absence.#canada #CanadaNews #fyp #CanadianPolitics #ottawa
Carney is right. It is a major risk to be dependent on a singular vendor of any necessity.

We have anti-monopoly laws, so Starlink couldn’t come in as a monopoly anyways.

Far more important than Starlink is Internet backbone infrastructure vulnerability. Mexico Internet backbone entirety within own borders. Canada is not. It has no backbone to speak of. It is a part of US backbone which US can shutdown with a single push button.

Why would he allow people to use something for national defense…. He doesn’t allow that type of stuff, all that has to pass through a channel and get approvals. And likely didn’t do that, but enjoyed it while things were peaceful. Trump knows how to gain the upper hand on things man! It maybe cruel but it works. A lot is at stake, what are you willing to risk?
