@yersocialistdad: A payday loan app says asking you for a tip is free speech. Maryland banned the tip jar. The app sued. Colorado pulled the data: 92% of users paid, average rate near 388% APR. Sources on screen.

If you don’t tip, they lower the amount you can borrow next time. I read about this a few years ago on Reddit. And it’s crazy

They can only get tips if they forgot all profits for a tipped minimum wage of $2.13/hr.

I think tipping culture has gotten out of control full stop. I just want to begin there. I'm mainly speaking to your question about the employer side of it. Can the employer bar tip request? I think the question of that answer is yes, for the same reason the payday app here is suing. The government can't stop them from doing it and stop them from prohibiting it, except unless it was prohibiting it for protective reasons, like age, sexuality, race, stuff like that. Now I'm for my personal belief into it. As I said at the beginning, Tipping Culture has gotten out of fucking control. It makes sense where people are providing a service to you, like bringing your food, parking your car, cleaning your house. Absolutely tipping should be a thing you should reward people for good work. But asking for a tip at fucking McDonald's is ridiculous. And it's even more perversive in states that allow tip wage. Declining tips should never be more difficult than giving a tip. And I saw on another comment that apparently if you declined tips on this app, you can't borrow as much. And that is bullshit too.

Alot of those pay early apps came up from covid. They were very predatory doing a lot of mirco loans or pay early options that always had some tip menu. im surprised now they are slowly realizing this could be a class action.
