@interstellarspac: A Debate Between Science and God That Time Settled. In 2009, Stephen Hawking expressed his belief that the universe did not require God to explain its existence. As a theoretical physicist, Hawking explored the origins of the universe through cosmology and the laws of physics. In 2018, Hawking passed away at the age of 76. But consider this perspective: the universe is approximately 13.8 billion years old, while Hawking lived for just 76 years. Stephen Hawking was one of humanity’s greatest minds, yet even his lifetime was tiny compared with the age of the cosmos. Long before his birth, galaxies had formed, stars had lived and died, and the universe had been evolving for billions of years. The universe doesn’t need to recognize us for us to exist, and our lives don’t need to last forever to have meaning. We are temporary beings in an ancient cosmos, with a limited window in which to explore and understand it.
