This reminds me of a lovely thanksgiving shift I worked. I was scheduled morning shift. Fantastic, I can have dinner with my family. Just as I was about to clock out my manager said there was a call in and asked if I could work PART of the night shift and be off at 5. I agreed. Well 4 rolls around and it’s only me serving. My manager said the server no call no showed but the closer is still coming in. She did not. Also no call no show. There were also no hosts, bussers, expos, or a dishwasher.. literally just me, 4 cooks, and 30 open menus with more people coming in. Where was the manager? Sitting at a booth having a snack. I was literally in tears staring at the completely full window. The cooks felt so bad they actually started helping me run food. Not once did the manager make an appearance to help. I told her to please put a wait on and she said no, “we’re under in sales”. THEN START TAKING TABLES?!? I almost quit that night

If a manager doesn’t want to teach you, help you, or be respectful, please tell the upper management, then quit. If it’s clear their decisions (like pushing seasonal promotions and customer surveys) are being made to satisfy preconditions for a their quarterly bonus, quit immediately. They value money over humanity. If a manager humiliates you PURPOSEFULLY in front of others, quit immediately. They value power, not authority.

one time my manager was supposed to train me for brunch, i was given the largest room, and didn’t know the brunch menu. she shows up, and says she needs to do some christmas shopping and dipped 🧍🏻♀️thank god for my coworkers

Am I allowed to go in the kitchen during service when food needs to go back? Absolutely not. Did I make direct, prolonged eye contact with my manager while holding a plate of OYSTERS that a guest didn’t like? Yes. Did he then turn around and walk outside? Also yes. Did I stand there holding fucking oysters for five minutes like an absolute tool? Yup. Did he tell me my tone was rude when he finally returned. Ugh, yes.
