@graveyard_guru: 🧸 Floyd B. Montgomery 🪦 Oct 17, 1895~April 27, 1899 👼 3 years old **The headlines showing Floyd’s age in the news articles are incorrect*** Floyd was born on October 17, 1895 in Oakland City, Gibson County, Indiana. He was the second out of eleven children born to Ellis Barnett Montgomery (1870~1944, a drayman & later Oakland City Toen Marshal) & Emley Laura Wood (1872~1933). His siblings were Curtis Everett Montgomery (1893~1915), Carl Andrew Montgomery (1897~1927), Dr. Earl Archide W. Montgomery (1900~1966), Robert Ellis Montgomery (1902~1966), Dorothy Jane Montgomery Mooney (1904~1989), James Elmo Montgomery (1907~1989), Mary Magdalena Montgomery Cain (1909~?), Davis Montgomery (1912~?), Arlie Burtis Montgomery (1912~1923) & Etha Marie Montgomery Scalzitti (1914~1993). On April 26, 1899, Floyd was inside the home with his mother while she was preparing lye for the sick hogs the family had on the farm. Back in those days, lye was believed to have been a type of dewormer & a small amount was put into the slop that was fed to the pigs. Floyd’s mother left the room for a moment & when she returned she found Floyd in great agony. The toddler’s curiosity lead him to taste the lye which proved fatal to the poor child. According to newspapers, he suffered greatly until he passed away the next morning on April 27, 1899. He was only three years old. #gravegeeks #savinghistory #theirstoriesmatter #gravestonecleaning
