@drwendy_physicaltherapy: Hey friend, sit with me a minute. If you've been told your widespread 4/10 joint pain, frozen shoulder or random tendinopathy is "just aging," I need you to go into your next appointment prepared. Here are the 5 questions I'd ask: 1. What’s happening with you joint? Let’s get a diagnosis. Let’s name what’s happening so we understand how to treat it. 2. Have you heard of the musculoskeletal syndrome of menopause? How will my healing timeline be impacted since I’m in perimenopause/menopause? 3. What are we doing to do to support my healing systemically? This means addressing insulin resistance, diabetes, thyroid issues, adequate nutrition. In Frozen Shoulder this is incredibly important to discuss. 4. Is hormone therapy an option for me? (Do I think it probably helps? Yes. Is the research on joint pain specifically still thin? Also yes. ) Ask anyway. Treating menopause symptoms matters. 5. Can I get a referral to a physical therapist? In the US we have direct access, however Medicare does require a script for referral. Bonus: print off "The Musculoskeletal Syndrome of Menopause" by Dr. Vonda Wright and Dr. Jocelyn Wittstein et al. Screenshot this. Save this. Send it to a friend who needs it. Talk to your doctor. I'm a physical therapist, but not your physical therapist. Love you bye. #menopause #jointpain

Crystal Neal :
I’m 53 next week, 18 years post total hysterectomy, zeros across the board for hormone levels and I’ve recently started topical testosterone. I play pickleball 3-4 times a week and my joints and muscles ache all the time!!! Does this last forever?

Started feeling old sports injuries at 37 but didn’t clock it as peri. Once I started HRT, most of that pain went away
