The fact that aside from injuries/death (and hopefully only one) that many people made it out is amazing. Hope they find those still missing

He said off the coast of central Africa because a lot of people don’t know general locations of African countries. Rig was in Gabon. Out of 115, 110 are accounted for. 1 dead, 4 missing. So sad. I work in Africa for a super major and been on our platform. I can’t imagine how terrifying that would’ve been. Prayers for all.

Never understood how the tower is floating but anchored in place. While also having a metal tube drilling down wards into the ground. How does the bit not break off??

Dave Watts :
The Prospector 5 offshore jack-up drilling rig sank off the coast of Mayumba, Gabon (Central Africa), on the night of October 24, 2026. Key Details of the Incident: • What Happened: The rig experienced a "punch-through event"—an accident where one of the rig's supporting legs unexpectedly broke through and sank into the soft seabed mud during preload/jacking operations—causing the platform to lose stability and capsize/sink. • Casualties & Personnel: Out of 115 personnel on board, 110 were safely accounted for and brought ashore. Reports from Reuters and authorities indicated one fatality (an Indian national) and four individuals missing (three Gabonese nationals and another expatriate), though search and rescue operations by the Gabonese Navy and response teams have remained ongoing.
