Chelsea Bree :
My favorite books that were required reading from school in no particular order: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Night by Elie Wiesel, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien.

Crime and Punishment and Tess of the D’Ubervilles. Fascinated but also horrified. I’d love to know what you think are modern equivalents!

My favorite in school was A Tale of Two Cities, but I’ve never reread as an adult. It always seems too daunting 😅

I read some of the books you mentioned and others like, Death Be Not Proud, The Delaney Sisters, Ellen Foster, Don Quixote, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Frankenstein, The Jungle (my history teacher dared us and I took the challenge, was a vegetarian for a week), Sybil (my pre-law professor recommended to the class and I got curious).

to kill a mockingbird, I had been watching the movie for years, but had not read the book until I was a sophomore. I read that book in just a few days ( not common for me, I was a slow reader) and had all the homework done the first day where we were comparing the book and movie. it was that classes most requested movie to watch if we were having a sub

Funnily enough with exception of Of Mice and Men and the lord of the flies, I haven’t read any of the books you listed on the required reading list and with the exception of Circe I’ve read every book on your recommendations list and loved all of them lol I think my favorite required reading in school would have to be either Hamlet or Dante’s Inferno

No because you will never catch me within five feet of a George Orwell book after being forced to read Down and Out in Paris and London my junior year.
