To actually ship an app or website, still takes a decent amount of effort even with AI. Everyone keeps selling the illusion of “create X with 2 prompts and it’s ready to go”, and that’s not even remotely true. AI will create your idea to about 65% and then you’ll get bored and give up. The winners will still win, and the market won’t get over saturated

Honestly if you look at what happened with the music industry, it’ll probably happen to software. Being a famous artist used to be gatekept, but then streaming allowed anybody to post their music to an audience and if anyone can do it, nobody’s famous that’s why you hardly hear of any new artist. Tech will go the same way, if anyone can do this, then eventually nobody’s gonna be making any money

I am one of the nerds. And I haven’t written a line of code in about a year. And I can’t help but wonder: do I really get smarter? I don’t think so. I’m not solving those problems anymore, my brain is not working out like it used to. Sure I can pump out more features than ever before, but is that really what the world needs? Because I’m a nerd I also know how to make it generate non buggy, secure and fast code. But all those vibe coded apps don’t care and just create a shitty experience for everyone. And it won’t just be solved by the AIs getting smarter. It’s about guiding them, giving them context, driving them to pay attention to the things that most vibe coders don’t know that they don’t know.

I'm genuinely excited for vibe-coding to be mainstream because it allows more avenues for regular people to express their creativity. That doesnt mean that it'll be high quality, but it can certainly deepen our connections with other people because we can actually see what our closest friends and family envision for themselves and their future.

I remember when the the World Wide Web was a brand new concept. People tried to imagine how it could be useful. So many people said, “businesses already exist in reality why would they need a webpage?” Pages went up anyway. Next search engine engines were invented. We started to get an inkling of where this was going. It feels like that again now.

Even if people could vibe code an app with no bugs or security vulnerabilities I just don’t think there are problems another new app could solve. Social media, shopping, productivity, etc have all been done to death.

im sorry but as a software engineer with about 20 years experience that heavily uses AI for writing code - you seriously cant rely on vibe coding. you need to understand how to structure code, how to verify what the AI has written, how to break large tasks down into bite sized pieces that are small enough for the AI to complete without smoking bath salts, and how to test code. AI (especially agentic AI) is a tool that MASSIVELY speeds up the rate at which a good software engineer can produce decent working code, but without a really solid understanding of fundamentals you cant rely on vibe coding anything but basic systems

As a loong time coder, here is howbi look at that. Everybody already could learn everthing and do everything but they did not have that patience and did not work as much as us. Nothing changed. once they try to do stuff with ai, they will see that even with ai, designing a product is so hard and they will give up because they will need to compete with much better products and in 3 years they will look for programmers and tech people to take over
