FDR acted entirely to represent the interests of the oligarchy. Socialism and Communism were not the dirty words they are today back then, in fact they had a good deal of popularity. The ruling class had a *reasonable* fear of something dramatic happening that would critically threaten their power and wealth. That is the key. We must make them have a reasonable fear of us. They must *know* that they have to accommodate our demands. They will never concede anything unless they are forced to.

I think a lot about FDR’s 2nd vice president Henry Wallace who wanted progressive social policies and was ousted by the wealthy who instead put Truman on the ticket as FDR’s third and final vp so we’d never see more progressive policies.
