DANGME FESTIVALS SEASON 2026: THE 133RD MANYA KLO (KROBO) NGMAYEM FESTIVAL! DAY 4: MOCK DURBAR DAY — HAPPENING NOW! TEACHING OUR CHILDREN TODAY. PRESERVING OUR HERITAGE TOMORROW! On Tuesday, 27 October 2026, basic school pupils from the Dangme Traditional Area of Manya Klo (Krobo) take on the roles of chiefs and Queen Mothers, reenacting a Grand Durbar and bringing their cultural heritage to life. Organised by the Manya Klo (Krobo) Festival Planning Committee, the Mock Durbar brings together basic and secondary schools within the Manya Klo Traditional Area to educate pupils about their language, culture, traditions and customary practices. Through this hands-on experience, the younger generation learns to appreciate, practise and preserve the rich cultural heritage passed down by their ancestors. This is how we preserve our culture: by teaching our children how to live it! THEME FOR NGMAYEM 2026 “Strengthening Our Bonds: Advancing Growth Through Heritage and Unity.” ABOUT NGMAYEM Ngmayem is a harvest festival deeply rooted in Dangme culture and tradition. Its name is commonly understood as “Eating Millet” in Dangme: • Ngma — Millet • Yemi — Eating or consuming Celebrated annually around Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region of Ghana, Ngmayem is an important occasion for thanksgiving, cultural renewal and unity. The festival was established in 1944 under the leadership of Paramount Chief Nɛnɛ Azu Mate Kole, replacing an earlier celebration known as Hiɛyemi (Yereyeli), meaning “Eating of Yam.” The official numbering follows the origins of the earlier tradition in 1893, making the 2026 celebration the 133rd Ngmayem Festival. Ngmayem provides an opportunity for the people to give thanks to the Creator, honour their ancestral heritage and celebrate the harvest, food security, protection and blessings of life. Through traditional rites, cultural performances and communal celebrations, the festival strengthens the bonds between generations and ensures that the traditions of Manya Klo (Krobo) continue to thrive. Long live Manya Klo! Long live Dangme culture and heritage! Oklibone! #Ngmayem2026 #133rdNgmayemFestival #DangmeFestivalsSeason2026 #MockDurbar #ManyaKlo
