You have to start in a salon. To learn and build. You are not ready when you get that license. Legally, yes. Technically absolutely not.

They don’t even realize your repeat customers are your bread and butter. If you price it right you’ll make the long term money.

They aint ready for a time when you spent 2 years as the shampoo girl. It took YEARS to get behind a chair working in somebodys salon. LEARNING is the part they are skipping.

Registered nursing, respiratory therapy, dental hygiene etc. are all at trade schools. I don’t know why people look down on trades

I went and got a job at a cleaning company and learned what they did and started my own cleaning business and was successful. I made money quick and easy but it was hard to find good help. I eventually did and my company grew. Chad is correct. I learned how price a house by hourly rate or base price, how divide cleaning by dry vs wet and how long it can take and so on. I got first hand experience in managing a team and HR work as well. Parlayed those skill sets back into corporate.

It’s an epidemic of people who were terrible employees who are now terrible business owners.

I am a small business coach and mentor, and I say this all the time a majority of these people aren’t hireable anywhere so they decide to open a business without any preparation.

Thank you. It baffles how people skip over the successful blueprint and dont realize why its not working. My uncle went from being a dishwasher to franchise owner of multiple locations for that company. He had to learn.

stylists going to straight suites ruin the hair experience. stylists used to have work in a salon because they could touch someone's head. receptionist and shampoo bowl. it taught them how to run a business by watching seasoned vets. now people are going straight from their home to a suite. they don't even know the deposit are stopped to be refundable IF THEY CANCEL On the client

Yesssss! Thats why I HATED when mfs would say shxt like “you don’t have to be ready or know everything to start a business, just start!” Like noooooo wtf? They absolutely should be stressed and worried about not being “perfect” or “ready” yet before servicing the public! That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen! That’s exactly how we got all the issues we have now! The misinformation, the lack of professionalism, the laziness, the poor quality…ughhhh

This! Everything you’ve said is absolutely TRUE!! In a previous chapter of my life, I worked as an executive assistant to several multimillionaires. Every single one of them had a similar rule for their children: earn an MBA, gain experience working in the same or a related industry, and meet regularly to discuss what they were learning and how that knowledge could be applied to the family business. I remember one woman who had made millions in the healthcare industry. She told me she would not hand her business over to her son because he refused to gain experience working in the industry. Instead, she planned to leave her entire fortune to her alma mater. Their philosophy was clear: privilege may open the door, but knowledge, experience, and a willingness to learn are what prepare you to lead.

When you work for yourself, you work for the public. It’s the same concept as being a music artist. You can’t be successful if you don’t have repeat listeners and fans buying tickets and merch
