From a Bible-based Christian standpoint, the problem is not merely that the prophet has two wives, but that a man claiming to represent God is openly practising and apparently promoting something contrary to the CHRISTIAN STANDARD FOR MARRIAGE.
Consider what the Scriptures teach:
1. GOD'S ORIGINAL ARRANGEMENT WAS ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN.
At Genesis 2:24, God established marriage as a union between a man and his wife, not a man and several wives. Jesus reaffirmed this arrangement at Matthew 19:4-6.
2. CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE IS MONOGAMOUS.
At 1 Corinthians 7:2, the apostle Paul wrote: "Let each man have his own wife and each woman have her own husband." The Christian standard is one husband and one wife.
3. RELIGIOUS LEADERS MUST SET THE RIGHT EXAMPLE.
At 1 Timothy 3:2, the Bible requires an overseer to be "a husband of one wife." A man claiming to be a prophet should certainly not disregard God's standards while presenting himself as a spiritual guide.
4. PUBLIC ACCEPTANCE DOES NOT MAKE WRONGDOING RIGHTEOUS.
The first wife's willingness to introduce another woman as her "sister-in-marriage" does not change the Christian standard. Human approval cannot override God's Word. - Acts 5:29.
5. CHRISTIANS MUST DISTINGUISH BETWEEN RELIGIOUS TRADITIONS AND BIBLE TEACHINGS.
Although polygamy was practised by some servants of God in ancient Israel, Jesus restored attention to God's original marriage arrangement. Christians are not governed by every marital custom permitted under the Mosaic Law.
THE IMPORTANT LESSON
A church service does not sanctify a practice simply because a religious leader approves of it. True worship requires obedience to God's Word, not merely religious titles, impressive ceremonies or public declarations.
Jesus warned at Matthew 7:21: "Not everyone saying to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the Kingdom of the heavens, but only the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens."
The question is not whether the two women are comfortable sharing one husband. The question is whether their marital arrangement agrees with the Christian standard established in the Scriptures.
