Plate-Balancing Pull-Ups... since I don't have any neutral grip pull-up handles on my rack, this is my favorite workaround. And while yes, I AM balancing two plates on top of the pull-up bar, it's actually NOT a super crazy balancing act. Because I'm gripping evenly on both sides, and I've got the plates centered on the bar, there is a small bit of tipping you need to track and control but it's not that hard. The REAL trick is getting the plates up on top of the bar (if your pull-up bar is higher than you can reach over top of easily for this, stand on a box or bench first) then getting them down safely. Be VERY sure to use weights you KNOW you can control for this, if you decide to try it out. In the first part of the video, I'm using two 25 lb bumper plates (use bumpers for this for sure - steel plates can slide too easily). In the second part of the video, it's a single 25 lb plate (don't use anything smaller because a 10 will bend too much if you pull down on the edges). Using the two plates opens up the hands really nicely making the exercise very challenging for the grip, too. When using the single plate, I like to go false grip with the thumbs on top of the plate. I do the pull-up alternating which side I bring my head up to, which does shift tension a bit more to the lats on that side. But yeah, while it might LOOK nuts, it's actually a great workaround for neutral grip pull-ups, I find. --- Want to build a bigger back? Give me 3 weeks on this program...
