@unxnown.news: KUT Austin News has obtained an audio recording from the ICE traffic stop and car chase that preceded the shooting of Wilber Garces Perez, the Venezuelan DoorDash driver who was shot by an ICE agent in North Austin last month. The audio comes from the body camera of an ICE agent that the government has identified as “D.F.” He is one of two ICE agents involved in the initial encounter with Garces Perez. The other one, who ultimately shot Garces Perez, is “L.G.” Federal prosecutors say Garces Perez hit L.G. with his car, and that the alleged assault was captured on D.F.’s body camera. They submitted video footage of the incident as evidence in a criminal case against Garces Perez, and the Department of Homeland Security has pointed to that evidence as justification for his shooting. The video is sealed from public view. But prosecutors displayed it during a criminal court hearing for Garces Perez on Sept. 30. Court staff also made an audio recording of the entire hearing, which KUT later requested and obtained. A federal grand jury has formally indicted Garces Perez on assault charges. He remains in federal custody while the charges are pending.
