@daddysbike: Every Friday and Saturday night, while thousands of people enjoy Newcastle's nightlife in England, a group of women walks the streets for hours without being paid for their time. Known as Women's Street Watch Newcastle, these volunteers spend their weekend nights helping vulnerable strangers get home safely. They provide free water, flip-flops, phone charging and assistance finding safe taxis, helping people in difficult situations get the support they need. Founded in 2021, the group has spent years giving up its weekend nights to look after people they've never met, without expecting payment. While the city stays busy late into the night, these ordinary women are quietly helping people stay safer, proving that kindness doesn't need a salary. They are not on duty. Nobody pays them, and nobody makes them come back week after week. They show up on Friday and Saturday nights, when the city is at its busiest and its most careless, and they walk the streets looking for anyone who needs a hand. A bottle of water, a pair of flip-flops, a phone charger, a safe taxi home — small things, given freely, that can change how a night ends for a stranger. They ask for nothing in return, and they have kept doing it for years. Kindness does not need a salary. It just needs people willing to spend their weekend nights on someone else.
