@chef_ismael_torres: You can love the kitchen that made you who you are… and still know it’s time to leave. That’s one of the hardest lessons I’ve learned throughout my culinary career. Sometimes the kitchen that gave you your first opportunity is the same kitchen you’ve outgrown. The chef who once taught you everything you knew might no longer have anything new to teach you. The team that once pushed you to become better might now be the reason you’re afraid to move on. And that’s difficult. Because in this industry, loyalty means something. We build relationships through long services, difficult nights, shared failures, and unforgettable victories. Some of those people become family. But here’s something I want every young cook and experienced chef to understand: Being grateful for where you came from doesn’t mean you’re obligated to stay there forever. Sometimes growth requires walking away from what feels comfortable. Sometimes the next chapter of your career begins when you finally have the courage to close the previous one. And sometimes the greatest way to honor the people who helped build you is to take everything they taught you and become something greater. Don’t burn bridges. Don’t forget the people who believed in you. And never forget where you came from. But don’t let loyalty become the reason you stop growing. You can appreciate the kitchen that built you without spending your entire career there. This is Words from a Chef, where we talk about the lessons, struggles, and experiences that shape us beyond the plate. Follow @ChefIsmael for honest conversations about culinary careers, leadership, and becoming the chef you aspire to be. Chefs, have you ever stayed in a kitchen longer than you should have because you felt loyal to the people there? #cheflife #chefsoftiktok #tiktokchef #culinaryjourney #chef
