Why can't they turn the ventilator off and let Christa Pike die? Christa Pike is unconscious, intubated, and breathing with the help of a ventilator in a hospital. This means she is unable to breathe by herself, and if she were removed from the machinery, she would die. So why is she being kept alive, when a few days earlier, society tried to kill her? The main reason is that she is still officially in the State's custody, and the State has an obligation to provide her with medical care to the same standard as that provided to the general public. Even though the State tried to kill her 3 days ago, they cannot turn the machine off because they are not allowed to kill her in any way they please. The Eighth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution explicitly prohibits the federal and state governments from imposing excessive bail, excessive fines, and cruel and unusual punishments. This means that if a prisoner due to be executed has a massive stroke on the day of execution, the State will be obliged to give them the best medical care and then, if they recover, kill them then. They cannot leave them to die from the stroke because the prisoner was due to be killed anyway. The State cannot request Christa's ventilator be turned off until Doctors have ruled she is

They cannot leave them to die from the stroke because the prisoner was due to be killed anyway. The State cannot request Christa's ventilator be turned off until Doctors have ruled she is "brain dead", and, although they will have already established this, they cannot declare it until enough time has passed to show there is little to no remainder of the execution drug in her system, a drug overdose, in theory, she could recover from in some manner. As we reported yesterday, there was talk of her being allowed to die on the 7th October (which was quickly removed online by all parties), we guess this must be the earliest date for Christa being removed from the machinery legally. Even if Chrisa Pike had a close family member who could tell the hospital to let her die, that would not be allowed because she is officially in State care as a convicted offender. #christapike #christapikenews #Tennessee
