@mothershipsg: Ho Ching's post comes just as Singapore is facing reduced gas imports from Indonesia. Then-Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry in 2009, S. Iswaran spearheaded the decision to take over the development and ownership of the country's first liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal after the 2008/2009 economic downturn made the project unviable for commercial operators. The LNG terminal allows Singapore to import gas from anywhere in the world, reducing the country's dependence on piped regional gas and turning Singapore into a gas trading hub. Ho highlighted how the terminal has brought in LNG supplies "both on long term contract and on spot bases”. Referring to Iswaran's 2024 conviction, Ho said: "In life, we all make mistakes. But our mistakes should not overshadow the good we have done." Images via U.S. Department of State/Flickr, Iswaran/Facebook, SLNG #mothershipnews
