Good news. I'm a stay at home Dad. You now get to praise me the same way you praise a stay at home Mom and prove this isn't a gender thing. I'll wait.

Somehow a man can still think working 40 hrs a week is a sacrifice when a woman gives every little thing that made her herself to her marriage, family, household, she’s given all of her energy, heart, soul, her health, her mind, her body, her beauty, her youth to everyone that needs anything from her-yet a man will say he sacrificed because he worked.

There’s no magical recipe to life. If you’re a mother who works, you miss your kids. If you stay at home, you feel like you’re missing out on building a career. There’s no right way because both scenarios you sacrifice something and you’ll mourn the other life you “could have had”*air quotes*

Lesson is don’t have kids until you have done what you want to do first. That’s the sad reality.

I feel a deep sadness for the women before us. They really didn't get to live a version of them they often wanted, but due to societies pressures, demands, rules, expectations, lived a rather robotic life.

It is exactly how your wife perceives it to be. She sacrificed. She remembers every time she has thought about it every day. Every. Single. Day.

Felt this to my soul. It’s hard. I’m a wife and mother I’m proud of my husband and the career he chose but a part of me will always resent how I had to put my life on hold. Idk who I am anymore other then just a wife and mom and I want so much more I want a life outside of that something that’s just mine.

A statement like this, I believe, comes from a place of wanting more for your child. There are so many things I wanted to do with my life but didn’t because I got pregnant young, married young, divorced young, and started all over. I don’t regret a single decision made but for my girls, I want them to do more. I want them to chase after whatever dream they have and not let anyone hold them back.

There’s really only two types of people in the world. Those that are driven to make things happen and those who make excuses.

I left the Navy after getting word that I would be promoted because my husband said he didn’t want to be a single parent while I was deployed. But we were both in the Navy when we married. So yes we are always expected to give up.

Marriage is a contract between two people. Sacrifice will come from both sides. What she needs is perspective. You have sacrificed time spent with your children (that alone is a big sacrifice). She has sacrificed her career. If she was persistent on becoming a nurse, she could have told you from the start so that both of you could've worked on a strategy on making it happen. Dropping this bomb after so many years and in front of the children tells me she's been living with resentment towards you for so long and that is so sad and not fair towards you. I think you both need to have a deep conversation with each other. My prayers are with you both🙏

Mine cheated with his secretary after I had 4 kids and never got my PhD that I always wanted. He got two promotions and a masters degree. I worked part to full time and took care of everything and he cheated with a 29 year old secretary. We give up everything to be treated like garbage

I use to think it was all his fault too but the truth is I made my own choices. I gave up things for the betterment of my family. For a long time I resented him and my sons but the truth is I asked for this. He also sacrificed dreams and things he wanted to do. He isn't doing what he wanted to do he is doing what is necessary to keep our family going and so am I. When life lifes it isn't either person's fault it's just how the cards fall.

I was accepted to nursing school. He talked me into something else to enrich both our careers. Except, now that I text that, it WASNT both of our careers. It was his. Then the children arrived. Of course I wanted to do that. Now I look back and know that he would have quietly fought every CE, every new skill, every anything. Now Me knows that Then Me had a 50% chance of staying an RN, but because of his crafty slights and discouragements. How he never told me “no”, but I know I would have “paid for it”. I have anyway.

The problem is assuming one is “wrong” and one is “right”. She wants to be heard and understood instead of him defending the choices and decisions. Just hear her and tell her you appreciate the sacrifices she has made as well. It’s not hard to validate someone’s feelings if you love them and actually listen without thinking of yourself.
