@elly.psychologist: When the thought that they might be cheating gets hold of you, it can take over everything. You check their last online time, reread messages, scroll through who they follow, looking for something that will either confirm the fear or finally put it to rest. It feels like you’re doing something useful, but the more you check if they’re cheating, the worse the anxiety tends to get. Searching keeps your attention locked on a threat somewhere out there, and once you’re in that state, almost anything can look suspicious. A delayed reply, a new contact, a change in tone all start to seem like clues, and you can spiral fast. Checking gives the illusion of control, as though watching closely enough could stop something from happening. In reality, if someone is going to cheat, they’ll find a way regardless of how vigilant you are. What your system is actually looking for is relief, a sign that you’re safe, and when it doesn’t find that reassurance it simply ramps up and searches harder, keeping you on high alert. One of the hardest but most helpful things you can do is put the phone down and step away from the hunt for proof. It also helps to bring your body out of that alarm state. Sitting still and trying to breathe it away rarely works when you’re this wound up, so do something physical instead. A brisk walk, a run or a workout can shift things quickly, and so can tidying, washing up, taking a shower or simply getting out of the house for a coffee. Anything that brings you back to where you actually are helps your nervous system register that there’s no immediate danger around you. Once you’re calmer, look at what you really know. Set aside what they’ve told you, because if someone is cheating and being manipulative, their words may be designed to keep you doubting yourself. Focus on actions instead, and write down real things that have actually happened, one at a time. That matters because cheating anxiety can blur the line between fear, old wounds and what’s genuinely in front of you. It can push you to dismiss yourself as just insecure, or to leap to blaming them for everything. Neither helps. Treating your anxiety as an alarm worth getting curious about, rather than a problem to silence, is what helps you work out whether it’s pointing to something in them, something in you, or both Official accounts and resources: www.ellyanastasiades.com #cheating #cheater #cheaters #cheated #cheats

The anxiety can be worse when you're not checking, simply because you know if you randomly do a check sooner or later you're bound to find something. It's like you're torn between checking and distracting yourself from not checking.

I told them I do not want to act as policeman by checking their phone, i'd feel embarrassed in doing so. Not even following list, as long as I feel their consistency with me. If someone is doing smth, it will show up sooner or later. I saw suspicios messages, tinder notification popped up the moment they were showing me their phone screen, witnessed sudden phone call by a woman at 8am (!) awhich turned out someone they were in communication with (some months ago 😭), another one they followed started following me, he even sent me a message not intended to me, the one he used to send me at the beginning of our communication. And on top of that, he would slow walk behind me or send me to pay at the counter and pull the phone out of his pocket and start typing behind my back. Had phone in his hand whenever I was away. I wanted to trust him, not be jealous, but him not committing, trauma bonded with his ex, gave me insecurities and confusion. Asked him about, he said he has no back ups. Less than months after the breakup, he already had someone

start talking to someone else. Within 2 weeks you will have the perspective that you need, and potentially a better partner

some times is not about them its about how and why i trusted so much when I had clues..
and after 15 years of marriage with 2 kids..
trying to do my things I remember.. oh that summer when she told me that and she went there.. so it was that. and that Friday.. and that work.. and that sickness..
and I can't stop thinking that I believe in love and she was using that.
and then I try and surpass that.. and do my things.. and then I remember..

Can I have help with a partner that walks out after arguments and goes silent for days and I have no idea where he is. I reached out to him today and he’s completely ignored me and I’m angry with myself now for doing this. I’m sick of feeling like he’s in total control of this relationship and I have to sit here and wonder if he’ll ever come home. I’m so trauma bonded to him I don’t know how to break free or feel strong.

Sorry I don’t want to sound stupid but what sort of things that they do would be evidence of them changing for the better?

Rough few days. We had a romantic night plan and I don’t know what happened when I came down for my bath. He was on the phone with someone else after he got off with her. He called another girl and was on the phone with her. I went to sleep alone. I really have no idea what happened. He had sent me sweet text all day and even said to me when I got home I just can’t wait to go to bed with you tonight. That’s why I said well let me go get my bath early while dinner is in the oven.
