We have some good news and some heartbreaking news about our sweet boy Gilbert. First, the good news! Gilbert has been stabilized, and all of his bloodwork came back normal. There were no indications of poisoning or anything concerning in his lab results, and his X-rays showed no broken bones or fractures. Unfortunately, we still don't know exactly why Gilbert has lost mobility in his limbs. Our vets suspect he may be experiencing spinal shock, which can occur when trauma to the spine causes swelling that temporarily affects the spinal cord's ability to function. If this is what Gilbert is experiencing, we are hopeful that he will regain mobility as the swelling subsides. Now for the heartbreaking news. Gilbert's X-rays revealed that this poor boy has been shot with BB pellets. While we don't believe the pellets are responsible for his current condition, this discovery tells us something absolutely heartbreaking. At some point in Gilbert's past, someone appears to have deliberately tried to hurt him. We don't know when it happened or what this sweet boy has endured, but the thought of someone intentionally causing him pain is devastating. Gilbert deserved kindness, not cruelty. Right now, Gilbert is receiving pain medication and IV fluids. He was dehydrated after spending time helpless in the heat, and we are so incredibly thankful we were able to get to him when we did. Despite everything, our handsome boy is doing well. He is comfortable, eating, and finally getting the care he deserves. We are cautiously optimistic about Gilbert's recovery and are hoping with everything we have that he will regain the use of his little legs. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated toward Gilbert's medical bills and care. Because of your kindness, this sweet boy has a chance at a better life. We will have more updates on Gilbert soon. For now, we're just grateful that he's safe, comfortable, and no longer suffering alone.
