she flew a plane the same way i “drove” a car when i was 5. she was handed controls for a few minutes while in the supervision of pilot and caretaker

She was "handed control" for less than a minute with a skilled pilot already at the helm. She was a real, rich white lady. Literally everything she accomplished down to the act she survived until adulthood is due to her family's wealth and status. That being said I'm so tired of hearing dumb ppl on the internet pretend she wasnt real. Everything she did is only impressive through the lense of her disability. Down to how widespread information is about her.

after learning about the blind-deaf community, she could've definitely still have "flown" a plane. definitely not by herself but with assistance. i used to be ignorant too but deaf&blind people DO exist.

Well she didn’t “fly the plane” she was with a pilot and held the handle for a few seconds. By saying someone who is blind and deaf isn’t capable of accomplishing something is wildly immature. Not only that she was able to pave the way for so many other disabilities by bringing light to what living with these conditions can do to a person. Just because she was blind and deaf doesn’t not mean she wasn’t capable. She wrote a book, she got an education, she lived a normal life.

I don’t know why people are calling you ableist it’s already a miracle that people claimed she could understand any form of communication, that’s like teaching a fish, how to speak English, not saying the disabled people are fishes. I’m just saying she was born blind deaf and me didn’t even know that she was a human and somehow learned the English language, but saying she flew a plane is a bit of a stretch, if it’s ever proven true, I would be genuinely shocked out of my mind
