that's WAY too much work. put the walnuts in a dark dry place like a basement and leave them alone for like a week. the green stuff will dry up and fall off.

Ohio here also. We would gather them and put them lol in our driveway and run over them to get the hulls off. I hate them because my mom used them in every baked item she made lol

At Christmas, Gramma would give bags of them away, hand picked and shelled. Was the most treasured gifts.

we used to throw them into the driveway and drive over them to bust the green out husk off then pick up the inner part and wash them off.

My mom used to bake tons with black walnuts. My dad retrofitted an antique corn sheller to husk them

My art teacher told us that one of her college professors had her class sit under a black walnut tree and draw it. She said that them walnuts pelted them when they fell and stained their clothes.

Makes no mention of how hard they are to remove from the cracked shell. That’s why nobody does them nor are they really commercially available

I’ve never liked them, but I had a boyfriend whose mother loved them and made black walnut pie. They were once available in grocery stores, but I don’t know if they still are.
