@pyrrhusofepiruslover: Qajar Iran 🇮🇷🇦🇿 Requested by @⛰️. The Qajar dynasty (1789–1925) was the royal dynasty that ruled Iran, known historically as Persia, during a period of political instability, foreign interference, military defeats and gradual modernisation. Founded by Agha Mohammad Khan Qajar, who reunified much of Iran after decades of civil war following the collapse of the Zand dynasty, the Qajars established Tehran as their capital and restored a central monarchy. Agha Mohammad Khan was succeeded by Fath-Ali Shah Qajar (1797–1834), whose reign was marked by two disastrous wars against the Russian Empire, resulting in the Treaties of Gulistan (1813) and Turkmenchay (1828), through which Persia lost extensive territories in the Caucasus, including much of present-day Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. His successors, particularly Naser al-Din Shah Qajar (1848–1896), attempted to modernise the country through reforms to the military, education, communications and administration, although progress was limited by corruption, financial weakness and resistance from conservative religious and political elites. During the nineteenth century, Britain and Russia increasingly dominated Persian affairs, competing for influence and securing economic concessions, while Iran struggled to preserve its sovereignty. The dynasty also witnessed the rise of the Bábí movement and the Baháʼí Faith, alongside growing intellectual and constitutional opposition to royal absolutism. Under Mozaffar al-Din Shah Qajar, mounting dissatisfaction culminated in the Persian Constitutional Revolution (1905–1911), which established a parliament, known as the Majles, and introduced a constitution limiting the Shah's authority. His successor, Mohammad Ali Shah Qajar, attempted to restore absolute rule, bombarding the parliament in 1908, but constitutionalist forces eventually deposed him in favour of his young son, Ahmad Shah. Despite the constitutional victory, political instability, foreign military intervention, financial difficulties and the Anglo-Russian Convention of 1907 weakened Iran's independence. During the First World War, Persia declared neutrality, yet Ottoman, Russian and British forces operated within its territory, causing considerable destruction and hardship. In 1921, military officer Reza Khan seized power through a coup and gradually consolidated control, becoming prime minister before deposing Ahmad Shah and founding the Pahlavi dynasty in 1925. Overall, the Qajar era was a transformative but troubled chapter in Iranian history: although the dynasty presided over territorial losses, foreign domination and weak state institutions, it also witnessed the emergence of constitutional politics, modern intellectual movements and the foundations of Iran's transition from a traditional monarchy towards a modern nation-state. #Iran #History #historytok #fyp #historyedit
