Lydia Draru said at once: “I agree I killed him, but I did not intend it.” He was drunk and had attacked her twice. She feared he would fetch his gun. But the fight had ended when she picked up the iron bar. The High Court rejected self-defence, but found malice was not proved. The verdict: not guilty of murder, guilty of manslaughter.
