I like to think that Spirit Mari NEVER wanted to scary him or hurt him, it was just Sunny coscience and guilt that made him see her as such a terrifying monster. There are some lines like the ones where Mari is behind a locked door and begging her brother to open and let her in. And I know your first tought may think that this is a trap, but if I was dead and I was somehow able to see how much my brother was hurting I think I would as well try to reach him, to console him. There are some Mari deleted lines such as "Let me help you" "Everything is going to be okey" "Your big sister is going to take care of you" which are such shame they got all scrapped becayse it could show how much Mari still loved her brother and disnt want him to suffer. Some people believe that a spirit cannot leave the living world if someone still hasnt acepted their death yet. Could that possibly be the reason of why during the neutral ending, when Sunny and his mother moves away, we see something following him in the car? Because Sunny has never got over it and now Mari spirit is doomed and stuck here forever?
