@walkaboutswithdan: Microsoft made $133.7 billion in profit last fiscal year. Now it's offering voluntary buyouts to roughly 60,000 employees while pouring enormous sums into AI infrastructure. We're getting a revealing look at who gets to decide how the benefits of AI are distributed. #Microsoft #AIJobs #ArtificialIntelligence #CorporatePower
A lot of my friends were offered buy outs, but many were just cut without buy outs.. there were with the company 30 years. If you’re over 55 years of age it was bye 👋 bye.. I am still an alumni and in communications with Microsoft old timers.

so, they offered a bribe to quit in order to reduce the numbers of the inevitable layoffs that will be following the bribery period?

Robert Reich has posted several times a chart that shows groeth in productivity and wages versus time. it is very clear that the first has made huge gains over the last century, and is poised to (or at least promised to) make more big strides. The wage growth has been relatively flat, and I am not convinced in the least that AI is going to change that trend for the better.

Microsoft had been too big for a long time. their products get worse the more features they add. everyone would be better if they left the code alone (except security patches of course)

I work for a large tech company that is shifting its focus onto AI. So much so, they gave us free use of a ton of AI software to “help make our jobs easier” and one of our yearly rocks is use to AI to “improve” our jobs. In other words, that gave us creating agents to take over our jobs.

I work in WA unemployment and I've seen whole teams laid off at once. the higher paid employees are being let go. that's what I see on my side of it...not just MS is laying off employees
