@c5news: “What should have been a happy childhood moment became heartbreaking and distressing for him and deeply painful for our family to witness.” Police in Florida have released body-camera footage and a 911 call recording after claims they were called to a children’s football game because a three-year-old player was “too good” went viral. The parents of a player called Nevada Pierre claim that every week “no one could take the ball from him” which some of the parents didn’t think was fair, “even though Nevada is three and the other players are five-years-old". On October 24, Winter Park Police Department (WPPD) officers said they were called to Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Winter Park by a youth sport’s director who said the “parents of a young player were being disruptive” and he wanted them to leave the park. In a 911 call, the sports director is heard saying “it’s not really an emergency”. He then explained he was dealing with an “unruly parent” who is “following me around, calling me names Infront of other parents” and recording him. Police were dispatched and body-camera footage shows the sports directed reiterating the situation to an officer, while admitting Nevada is “good, he’s great.... he’s very advanced compared to the other kids. He’s scoared a lot of goals”. The sport’s director goes on to allege Nevada was pushing other players, and he asked him to be removed from the game, which caused his mother, Martasia Griffin, to “create a big scene”. The boy’s parents dismiss this, saying Nevada was simply “doing the unthinkable at just three years of age”. “The League kicked Nevada out because every week they couldn’t take the ball from him,” they wrote on social media. In a social media post on Monday, WPPD wrote that the boy’s parents were already “in the process of leaving the park” when they arrived. The force clarified that “this call did not prompt officers to trespass any individuals and was considered a civil matters between the league and parents”. “Despite some social media rumours, there was never any suggestion that the call to police was prmoted over the child’s on field talent.” Ms Griffin has since launched a funraising page to support Nevada’s footballing journey. As of midday Tuesday, almost £18,000 had been donated. Writing on the page, Ms Griffin detailed how her son, under “guidance from his father”, Don Pierre, has “continued to build his skills and deepen his love for the game”. “Soccer is more than an activity for him. It is something that brings him joy and excitement and gives him a chance to learn and be part of a team,” she wrote. Speaking about the incident over the weekend, she wrote: “At just 3 years old, Nevada could not understand why he was being taken away from a game he loved. What should have been a happy childhood moment became heartbreaking and distressing for him and deeply painful for our family to witness.” Ms Griffin said the fundraiser is about “more than one painful experience”. “It is about protecting Nevada’s passion for soccer and making sure this moment does not define his journey. As his mother, it has been incredibly hard to see the emotional impact this has had on him. We believe every child, regardless of abilities, background, or potential, deserves the chance to learn, grow, and enjoy the game they love in a safe and supportive environment.”
