My Maltese does this a lot - he tries to bury when he wants to save a treat for later, and also when he wants the item to disappear, like any of my grooming tools for instance 😂

Yes, my Chi does this too. Nugget also won’t eat her food out of the bowl - she will carry small amounts of food to the nearby rug to eat. 🤪

one of my dog's favorite "toys" is a toilet paper tube when we're done with it. she ripped up a whole tube, and then tried to bury the last tiny piece of the tube left. it was a thumb sized piece of cardboard she was trying to save for later LOL

My chi does this with his high value treats, about 50% of the time. He gets so excited over them he squeaks and parades it all over the house before trying to cache it in my bed 😂💜

My little pomchi LOVES a scrambled egg! He always does this with his entire bowl of food, attempting to bury the entire bowl. Matilda is oh so stinking cute! 🥰

I never seen a dog do this till I got my senior Chihuahua. He does it at his food bowl, even with nothing to bury😭 he also does it to chew toys or treats, and then he does a little poking motion to tuck it in once it’s covered

my Chie does this, if she isnt wanting to eat it at that moment then she hides it for later..also she crys while shes trying to find a hiding spot if she cant find a good one lol its quit funny. but she remembers every spot she hides stuff..

aww cutie 🥹 did she wanna stash it for later? Chili does it when she's stressed about food, especially if it has a strong smell. My best guess is it's a thing of "this smell could attract predators"?
