$623 your rotors should be replaced, not resurfaced. That would be fair

New rotors. Do not let them resurface your rotors. Never let them cut them, it’s very dangerous.

In life you have 2 choices. Put in the time or put in the money. To replace everything new is about $400 in parts. So your question should be: Is it worth $223 to do it myself or should I outsource it? Thank you for reading my dad talk.

190$ diagnostic fee is ridiculous for brakes

Get a mobile mechanic in your area. Hell you might find a local one on tic Tok.

People may disagree with me but with as thin as rotors are these days I wouldn’t resurface them, I would replace them. Plus it’s a Prius… I can’t imagine they’re warped. I’d get a second opinion

If you have free time and like getting crafty, you can watch a lot tutorials on YouTube and do it yourself. You can rent tools and do all the work in one weekend (or day). Depending on how many rotors need work done, you can replace all rotors and brakes for (should be) no more than $400.
But for $600 you should be able to get someone (more trustworthy) to replace everything.
"resurfacing" IS an option but that is very niche and likely a "milk the customer" option. "Cheaper than replacing" but more often never the right choice.

Just a little research, You can get a whole kit, front and rear brakes and rotors off parts geek for $160. You probably don't even need rear brakes, but that's around $400 labor for a job that would take you about 2 hours if you had no idea what you were doing, maybe an hour if you did. I'm a mail carrier and I go through a set of front brakes every 6mo or so and a rear set may every 2-3 years and my dad made me learn to change my brakes myself so "I wouldn't get screwed when he wasn't able to do them for me anymore". $623 sound like a whole lot to me especially if you don't know if the front and back are actually bad. I hate when shops take advantage of people that don't really know about things.

Definitely depends where you are. That seems like a fair price to me, but illogically from California and everything is expensive.

Check the price for new rotors don’t resurface them! The price sounds fair market value! I’d ride an e-bike before I’d drive a Prius!! So that’s fair 😂 and

That’s a pretty fair price, but that’s why I do my own. If you have disc brakes on all 4 wheels, which most modern cars do, it’s more time consuming than difficult. If you know how to change a tire, changing brakes is only 2 more bolts per

We just had our front brakes and rotors replaced on our 2023 Toyota RAV4. It cost us $600 just for the front.

I would ask the price difference between replacing the rotors and having them resurfaced.

That’s more expensive for that price for turning rotors. Honestly, you should just better off just replace some pads and rotors.

I would do it.
for future... I always ask what a shop's hourly rate is then ask how long they expect the job to take (ie $150/hr x a 2 hr brake job = $300). from there you can ask if the diag fee goes towards the job if you decide to move forward with them. lastly, don't forget to ask for a breakdown for cost of parts.
good luck🫶

sounds bout right. anyone else saying otherwise is stuck in the past. most shops are 180+/hr now. and each axle is usually 1-1.5 hours of labor. call napa or o'rieleys and get a cost on new pads and rotors front and rear then add presumptive labor ✌️
