@b4tl_equine: One missing eye. A whole chain of muscular compensation. 🐴 This mare is showing increased tension through the splenius muscle and nuchal ligament region on one side, potentially related to postural compensation following the loss of her eye. Over time, these altered movement patterns may be contributing to the development of a ewe-neck appearance near the withers, as she struggles to maintain balanced cervical posture and muscle engagement. So how do we address it? 🔹 Gentle massage and myofascial releases to reduce muscular guarding. 🔹 Controlled cervical stretches to encourage comfortable, symmetrical mobility. 🔹 Under-saddle exercises like large serpentines, shallow loops, gradual transitions, and gentle lateral work to encourage balanced bending, thoracic sling engagement, and correct topline recruitment. The goal isn’t just releasing tight muscles. It’s retraining the movement patterns creating the tension. Because compensation doesn’t stop at the site of injury. Any suspected ligament injury or persistent neck pain should be evaluated by a veterinarian before stretching or bodywork. #BeforeTheLightsEquine #EquineBiomechanics #EquineBodywork #HorseRehabilitation #EquineAthleteDevelopment
