@dld83377: Simone Biles Says She Is “Trying to Beat the Statistics” in a Rare Post About Being a “Foster Kid” Simone Biles just shared a personal look back at where she started. On Sunday, Oct. 25, the 29-year-old Olympian posted on her Instagram Story. She shared lyrics from the song “Lil Terrio” by rapper Toosii: “We ain’t have no milk / I’m pouring water in my cereal.” Over them, she wrote, “We’ve come a long way.” Then she added, “Just a foster kid trying to beat the statistics.” Biles spent three years in the foster care system. Her maternal grandparents, Ronald and Nellie Biles, then legally adopted her and her sister, Adria, when she was six. A 2024 report from the U.S. Census Bureau and Pew Research Center found that about 18 to 28 percent of skipped-generation homes live below the federal poverty line. Biles has spoken about her early years before. In 2017, while competing on Dancing with the Stars, she said her biological mother struggled with Drg and Alchol abuse and was in and out of jail. “I never had a mom to run to,” she said. She was placed in foster care at age three. “Whenever we had visits with my grandpa, I was so excited,” she said. Biles also has two older sisters, Ashley and Tevin, who were adopted by their great-aunt. She has two adoptive brothers, Ronald Jr. and Adam, who are Ron and Nellie’s biological children.
